Israeli airstrikes hit key Syrian military targets near Damascus
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Government-affiliated news agencies reported on Sunday that a series of loud explosions rocked areas near Damascus, following Israeli airstrikes targeting ammunition depots believed to belong to the former Syrian regime.
Additional explosions were reported near Air-Defense Battalion 55, positioned in the mountainous areas of the Damascus countryside, according to some media outlets.
The exact scale of the damage and potential casualties from these incidents remains unclear, with no official statements from Syrian authorities or the Israeli government so far.
The strikes are part of Israel’s ongoing campaign to dismantle Syria’s military infrastructure and weapons stockpiles, which has intensified since the regime’s diminished control over parts of the country.
On Jan. 2, Israeli forces reportedly struck an ammunition depot in the western countryside of Damascus. Later, the strikes targeted war production facilities in al-Safira in Aleppo Governorate.
