SDF reports killing 72 SNA militants in Syria’s Manbij
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday that 72 militants of the Turkish-backed armed factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), were killed and others injured during clashes in the countryside of Manbij and near the Tishrin Dam in northern Syria.
In an official statement, the SDF reported that the Manbij Military Council, a key component of the SDF, delivered significant blows to the factions in areas south and east of Manbij as well as in the Tishrin Dam area.
It added that approximately 72 SNA militants were killed, and dozens were injured as well as the destruction of numerous armored vehicles and military equipment.
In the city of Dayr Hafir, east of Aleppo, the SDF forces reportedly targeted and destroyed a large military vehicle belonging to the factions in the village of Habouba, resulting in the deaths of those inside.
Additionally, an explosive-laden drone operated by the factions detonated in the area.
On Friday, Turkish warplanes conducted five “intense” airstrikes on the Tishrin Dam and nearby villages. The area continues to experience artillery shelling and drone surveillance, according to the SDF statement.
The SDF claimed to have thwarted a Turkish attempt to establish a military base on a hill near the Tishrin Dam. In the operation, they reportedly destroyed a heavy artillery piece, a Grad missile launcher, and targeted a convoy of military vehicles.
