Syria’s Kurdish-led Administration Condemns Terrorist Attack in New Orleans
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Elham Ahmad, Co-Chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a crowd in New Orleans during New Year celebrations.
The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, involved a small truck driving into a crowd in a tourist area of New Orleans, killing 10 and injuring 35. The FBI has launched an investigation into what it described as a “terrorist act.”
Statement on Solidarity
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ahmad expressed condolences to the American people and government, stating, “We strongly condemn the terrorist attack that targeted the friendly American people in New Orleans. This heinous act claimed 10 lives and left 36 others injured. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the people and government of the United States and wish the injured a swift recovery.”
Continued Fight Against Terrorism
Ahmad emphasized that this tragedy highlights the ongoing threat of terrorism and the need for a comprehensive strategy to combat it.
“As committed partners in the Global Coalition against ISIS, we have sacrificed thousands of men and women in the battle against terrorism,” she wrote. “It is now imperative to strengthen this partnership and expand it into political and economic dimensions to address and eliminate all sources of terrorism.”
Ahmad’s statement underscores the AANES’s commitment to international cooperation in combating terrorism while advocating for expanded measures to tackle its root causes.
