ISIS militants kill shepherd in Syrian Desert

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Armed militants affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) attacked late on Thursday night, a group of shepherds in the eastern countryside of Homs, central Syria, killing one shepherd before retreating to an unknown location.

A local source in the city of Palmyra told North Press that the militants, traveling in two SUVs, ambushed the shepherds in the desert area between Palmyra and Homs shortly after midnight.

The source added that the attackers seized dozens of sheep, claiming the flock belonged to a former officer in the forces of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The shepherd, identified as Salman al-Khdeir, reportedly fired warning shots from his pistol after the militants had withdrawn, aiming to alert other nearby shepherds. However, the ISIS militants returned and fatally shot him on the spot.
