ISIS attacks in Syria during 2024 leave 853 casualties
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In 2024, ISIS carried out 249 attacks across Syria leaving 853 casualties, marking a troubling escalation of its operations and resulting in significant casualties, a monitoring NGO said on Tuesday.
According to a report from the human rights group Insight, these attacks led to 853 total casualties, including 494 deaths and 359 injuries.
In 2023, North Press documented the killing of 575 people due to ISIS operations. The SDF conducted 73 counter-ISIS operations in 2023, successfully arresting 352 members of ISIS sleeper cells.
On Dec. 22, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan voiced concerns about the potential resurgence of ISIS amid the ongoing instability in Syria. He emphasized that the absence of authority in certain regions creates opportunities for the extremist group to regroup and pose significant threats.
