U.N. says over $300 million needed to support Syrian refugees’ return
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A United Nations official announced on Thursday that over $300 million is needed to support the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
William Spindler, spokesperson for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), stated that facilitating the return of Syrian refugees within six months requires an estimated $310 million in assistance.
Spindler emphasized that the majority of the six million Syrian refugees worldwide express a desire to return to their country.
He highlighted that accelerating the return of Syrians is contingent upon ensuring access to essential services such as employment opportunities, education, healthcare, and adequate living conditions.
The U.N. official also stressed that Syrian refugees must be given sufficient time to make an informed decision about returning, free from any external pressure.
