DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iraq suspends crude oil exports to Syria due to unstable situation, an Iraqi official said on Sunday.
Iraqi MP Mustafa Sanad confirmed that Iraq had decided to cease providing crude oil to Syria starting from December.
He emphasized the financial implications of the decision, stating that the value of the oil supplied in a single month could cover the salaries of 19,000 contract workers in Basra’s education sector for an entire year—a sector the ministry plans to abandon.
Operations at the Baniyas refinery on Syria’s coast came to a halt after it stopped receiving crude oil shipments from Iran, which has been the primary supplier of Syria’s oil imports, according to the Financial Times.
