SDF, Coalition captures 18 ISIS members in Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday the capture of 18 ISIS members and their “suspected collaborators” during an operation in Raqqa Governorate, northern Syria. This operation, conducted on the night of December 21, was supported by the international coalition and aimed at dismantling ISIS cells in the area.
The SDF highlighted that ISIS capitalized on the chaos following the fall of the Baath regime to seize numerous arms depots formerly controlled by the regime.
These stockpiles bolstered ISIS’ operational capabilities, enabling it to expand across Syrian territory, including the strategic outskirts of Raqqa and the Syrian Desert (Badia).
On Dec. 20, the U.S. Central Command announced that it had killed an ISIS leader in a precision airstrike in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, adding that the coordinated efforts between the SDF and the Coalition underscore ongoing operations to combat ISIS and stabilize the region.
