Syrian Coalition Leader: Coalition to Dissolve After National Conference in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Hadi al-Bahra, President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, announced on Wednesday that the coalition will dissolve once a national conference is held in Syria. He emphasized that the transitional government must be credible, inclusive, and not founded on sectarian bases.

During a press conference, al-Bahra clarified that coalition representatives have not held meetings with Ahmed al-Sharaa, head of the military operations administration, but have communicated with the interim government and related entities.

Al-Bahra stated, “The coalition will dissolve when a national conference is convened, electing a constituent assembly representing the entire Syrian people. This assembly will form a constitutional committee to draft Syria’s future constitution.”

He urged support for the interim government in Damascus and stressed the need for the transitional period in Syria to last no more than 18 months.

Al-Bahra also mentioned plans for the coalition to re-establish its presence in Syria by opening an office there. However, he noted that logistical arrangements and guarantees for freedom of expression must be ensured before this move can take place.
