SDF commander pushes for permanent ceasefire in NE Syria

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Tuesday that negotiations with the Global Coalition and Turkey are ongoing to secure a permanent ceasefire in northeastern Syria and across the country.

Abdi made the statement during a meeting in the city of Raqqa in northern Syria attended by commander of the Global Coalition forces in the Middle East, along with tribal leaders and key regional figures.

A source present at the meeting told North Press that Abdi and the Coalition’s commander discussed the latest military and political developments in northeastern Syria and Aleppo.

Discussions also focused on ensuring inclusive representation of all communities and sects from northern Syria in negotiations with the new government in Damascus.

North Press confirmed the details through Abdi’s office, though no further information was disclosed.

The meeting follows Monday’s announcement from the SDF that U.S.-led mediation efforts had failed to secure a lasting ceasefire in the Manbij and Kobani regions of northern Syria.
