U.S. Mediation Fails to Secure Ceasefire in Kobani and Manbij Amid Turkish Escalation

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday that U.S.-led mediation efforts failed to establish a permanent ceasefire in northern Syria’s Manbij and Kobani, as Turkey and its allied factions continue their attacks.

The escalation has led to widespread instability, displacement, and civilian casualties in the region, compounding an already dire humanitarian situation.

SDF Statement on Ceasefire Efforts

The SDF issued a statement via Telegram, accusing Turkey of obstructing U.S. efforts to mediate peace.

“The U.S. mediation has not succeeded in establishing a permanent ceasefire in Manbij and Kobani due to Turkey’s tactics of evasion and refusal to accept the core terms of the agreement,” the statement read.

The proposed ceasefire included several key provisions, such as the safe evacuation of remaining Manbij Military Council fighters and trapped civilians to secure areas in northeastern Syria. Another contentious point was the relocation of the tomb of Suleyman Shah, an issue central to ongoing tensions.

Despite U.S. attempts to de-escalate the situation, the SDF noted that Turkey and its allied factions have continued their aggression against these areas, undermining peace efforts.

Continued Turkish Attacks

For over a week, Turkish forces and affiliated armed groups have carried out heavy attacks on Kobani and Manbij, causing significant displacement and casualties among civilians.
