Iraqi security warns of ISIS plot to target prisons in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iraqi security officials raised on Sunday alarms about an ISIS plot targeting prisons in Syria that are currently under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

Abdul Karim Abdul Fadhel, head of Iraq’s National Security Service, confirmed that ISIS members in Syria are planning attacks on facilities in Raqqa, Hasakah, and other areas in north and east Syria.

Abdul Fadhel highlighted the threat of a potential mass escape from these prisons and the significant risks it could pose to both regional and international security.

He stressed that Iraq’s security forces are fully prepared to respond to any internal or external threats.

“We are warning about the consequences of a possible escape of terrorists from the al-Sawami’ prison in Raqqa and the Industrial Secondary School prison in Hasakah,” Abdul Fadhel said, noting the dangers such an escape could bring to the region’s stability.

He also pointed out that ISIS is planning to launch attacks to free thousands of terrorists from various nationalities, still held in prisons run by the SDF.

Abdul Fadhel emphasized that Iraqi security agencies are heightening their alert levels in preparation for any attempts to destabilize the country’s security.
