Turkish-backed SNA factions target Tishrin Dam in Syria’s Manbij
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA) launched on Thursday an attack on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in an attempt to seize control of the strategically vital Tishrin Dam on the Euphrates River near the city of Manbij, northern Syria.
A source told North Press that the SNA factions targeted SDF positions near the dam, sparking heightened concerns over its safety and stability.
On Wednesday, Mazloum Abdi, Commander in Chief of the SDF, announced the withdrawal of SDF forces from Manbij. The move was aimed at facilitating a ceasefire across all Syrian territories and paving the way for a political process to shape the country’s future.
Meanwhile, workers at the Tishrin Dam issued urgent pleas for protection, warning of potential damage to the critical infrastructure.
Located approximately 20 kilometers southeast of Manbij, Tishrin Dam is the second-largest power station in Syria, following the Euphrates Dam in Tabqa.
