SDC co-chair calls for national unity amid critical phase in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Co-Chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Mahmoud al-Meslet, delivered a heartfelt message on Tuesday, urging Syrians from all walks of life to embrace national unity.

Addressing Syrians broadly, and Arab tribes and clans specifically, al-Meslet emphasized the need for solidarity among Arabs, Kurds, Yazidis, Druze, Muslims, and Christians to navigate the challenges of the current phase.

Al-Meslet underscored the dangers of division, cautioning against sedition and conflicts that serve only to benefit adversaries.

“The current stage demands increased joint efforts to maintain civil peace and build a new Syria—a free and unified state that accommodates everyone,” he stated.

Reflecting on Syria’s ongoing journey, al-Meslet remarked, “In light of the current circumstances in our beloved Syria, and with the Syrian people achieving significant steps toward freedom and dignity, we affirm the necessity of preserving the gains made by the glorious Syrian revolution and working to safeguard them.”

He called on Syrians, regardless of their sectarian or religious identities, to rally around the vision of a new Syria. “Let us shape a future for the sons and daughters of the homeland, from Qamishli to Suwayda, from Aleppo to Latakia, across all Syrian geography, with all its components and sects,” he noted.

In his direct appeal to Arab tribes, al-Meslet reiterated the integral role of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the country’s fabric and highlighted the historical significance of Kurdish contributions.

“Our Kurdish brothers are an essential part of this country’s history and social fabric. The SDF, composed of our sons, fought against ISIS and worked to preserve the unity, security, and stability of Syria,” he indicated.

Warning against the dangers of ethnic and sectarian discord, the SDC co-chair stated, “We do not want anyone to be drawn into an Arab-Kurdish sedition.” He stressed the importance of avoiding inflammatory rhetoric that deepens societal divisions.

The Mahmoud al-Meslet concluded his message with a call for action: “Intra-Syrian dialogue must be activated as a fundamental path to resolving disputes and fostering understanding among all parties. Only through dialogue can we build a united future.”
