Girl Killed, Family Injured in Turkish Strike on Northern Syria’s Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – A Turkish drone strike on Tuesday targeted a family’s home in the village of Jadah, located southwest of Kobani, killing a 16-year-old girl and wounding six members of her family.

This attack comes amid escalating Turkish airstrikes and drone assaults on multiple regions across northern and northeastern Syria. These operations, which have intensified since the fall of the former Syrian regime, have resulted in significant civilian casualties.

A local source confirmed to North Press that the drone strike caused substantial damage to the family’s home. “The strike led to the immediate death of a teenage girl and inflicted injuries on six of her family members,” the source stated. The injured were transported to nearby medical facilities, and the casualty toll could rise.

Earlier in the day, Turkish drones targeted the village of Safiya in Ain Issa’s countryside, north of Raqqa, killing eight civilians, including children. These attacks are part of a broader Turkish military campaign that has left dozens of civilians dead and displaced thousands across northern Syria.

Turkish forces, along with affiliated factions, have ramped up their offensive, citing security concerns. However, human rights organizations and local officials have denounced the attacks as indiscriminate and a violation of international humanitarian law.

Background on Escalation

Turkey’s military operations have created a climate of fear and instability in Kobani and surrounding areas. Residents report a persistent threat from drones targeting civilian homes, schools, and infrastructure. Over the past week, Kobani has witnessed multiple drone strikes, causing widespread destruction and displacing families.

These attacks follow a pattern of targeting areas perceived as under the influence of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The international community has called for restraint, but no decisive actions have been taken to halt the ongoing violence. The SDF has vowed to defend civilian areas and hold aggressors accountable for targeting non-combatants.

Regional Impact and Civilian Toll

The latest strikes further exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in northern Syria. With local medical resources overstretched and thousands displaced, the region faces mounting challenges in addressing basic needs.

The escalation has drawn widespread condemnation from Syrian and international human rights groups, who demand immediate cessation of hostilities and adherence to international norms protecting civilians in conflict zones.
