Salih Muslim calls for unity, dialogue in post-Assad Syria
QAMSHLI, Syria (North Press) – Salih Muslim, member of the Presidential Committee of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), reaffirmed on Monday the party’s readiness to engage in dialogue with all Syrian parties, signaling a willingness to contribute to a new chapter in the country’s history.
Speaking to North Press, Muslim emphasized that the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on Dec. 8 marked a pivotal victory for the Syrian people.
“Following this historic event, Syria will embark on a phase of reconstruction and revival, rebuilding its institutions, and regaining its strength,” he stated.
Muslim traced the PYD’s longstanding conflict with the Assad regime back to its establishment in 2003 and the Qamishli uprising of 2004.
“Our struggle against this regime never ceased. We were at the forefront during the Syrian revolution,” he noted. “This persistent fight has led to the regime’s downfall.”
Highlighting the importance of inclusivity in the next phase, Muslim stressed the need for a decentralized, united Syria founded on equal citizenship and rights for all its diverse components.
He expressed readiness to engage in dialogue with both internal and external stakeholders, while cautioning against ongoing aggressions, such as the events unfolding in Manbij.
“The global community and all forces involved in Syria must acknowledge these aggressions, which aim to hinder a peaceful resolution,” the Kurdish leader said. “The voices of millions living in North and East Syria cannot be ignored.”
While reaffirming their commitment to coexistence within a unified Syrian framework, Muslim emphasized the need for dialogue and cooperation to ensure a peaceful future for all components of Syrian society.
Concluding his remarks, Muslim called for inclusion in future political discussions about Syria. He expressed hope that the Kurdish people and other marginalized groups would no longer be excluded due to opposition from anti-democratic factions.
