Germany warns against radicals controlling Syria after Assad’s fall
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed on Sunday concerns about Syria falling under control of radicals following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated on X platform that the country’s transition must not result in Syria falling under the control of “other radicals.”
This came in the wake of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allied opposition factions taking control of Damascus earlier on Sunday. In a historic broadcast on Syrian state television, the opposition declared, “The tyrant Bashar al-Assad has been overthrown. “
Baerbock emphasized the need for a balanced and inclusive approach to Syria’s future, underscoring the importance of stability and accountability.
Baerbock further called on all parties to uphold their responsibilities toward Syria’s diverse population, “This includes comprehensive protection of ethnic and religious minorities such as Kurds, Alawites and Christians and an inclusive political process that creates a balance between the groups.”
Coinciding with these developments, Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), launched a violent offensive on three fronts in Manbij, northern Syria.
