SDF’s Abdi calls fall of Assad’s regime opportunity for new Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In a statement on Sunday, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, said the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime marks a pivotal moment for Syria, describing it as a chance to “build a new Syria.”
Abdi emphasized the profound significance of witnessing the fall of the authoritarian regime in Damascus, calling it a turning point in the nation’s troubled history.
In a tweet on the platform “X,” the SDF commander highlighted, “Syria is living through historic moments as we witness the fall of the authoritarian regime in Damascus.”
He continued, stating, “This change represents a unique opportunity to establish a Syria based on democracy and justice, guaranteeing the rights of all Syrians.”
The statement comes after former President Bashar al-Assad fled to an undisclosed location. His departure followed the advances of opposition factions in Homs, which ultimately led to their entry into the Syrian capital, Damascus, as confirmed by both Arab and Western media sources.
