Unknown gunmen kill Iranian IRGC leader in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen killed a leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, a military source told North Press on Saturday.

The source said that Adnan al-Saud, also known as al-Zozo, leader of the Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas militias, affiliated with the IRGC, was killed on Friday by unidentified gunmen in al-Mayadin, a town in the southeastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The circumstances surrounding al-Saud’s killing remain unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Coinciding with this incident, reports from The New York Times indicated that Tehran began withdrawing its military personnel and commanders from Syria on the same day.

This move could signal a strategic shift in Iran’s involvement in the Syrian conflict, though the reasons and potential implications of the withdrawal remain uncertain.
