Thousands of Kurdish Displaced Remain Trapped in Aleppo Amid Uncertain Fate
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Thousands of Kurdish displaced individuals remain stranded in northern Aleppo countryside under dire humanitarian conditions, facing an uncertain fate. Pleas for assistance continue as they endure ongoing hardship in areas controlled by Turkish-backed factions.
On Thursday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) revealed that thousands of civilians had been abducted and detained by Turkish-backed factions after being trapped in northern Aleppo for several days. These factions have blocked safe passage to secure areas, exacerbating the crisis.
Struggles in a Hostile Environment
Widespread regions of northern Aleppo countryside are grappling with harsh conditions due to the control of Turkish-backed factions. Reports of violations, harassment, and exploitation of civilians are rampant, adding to the woes of a population already burdened by challenging weather and humanitarian conditions.
Speaking to North Press through appeals to make their plight known, trapped individuals expressed grave concerns:
“We are still stranded in northern Aleppo under harsh conditions, particularly affecting children and the elderly. We fear an unknown fate awaiting us.”
The displaced emphasized the need for immediate action, calling for safe corridors to evacuate them from areas under the control of armed factions loyal to Ankara.
SDF’s Statement and International Concerns
The SDF highlighted in a recent statement the grim reality faced by those trapped in northern Aleppo. According to their accounts, factions have engaged in mass abductions, detaining civilians in precarious circumstances.
Thousands remain in jeopardy as the factions block humanitarian access and prevent displaced individuals from seeking refuge in safer regions.
The Broader Humanitarian Crisis
This situation is emblematic of the larger humanitarian crisis unfolding in Syria, where displacement and violence persist as the war continues into its 14th year. Northern Aleppo, a region marked by frequent clashes and territorial shifts, has become a microcosm of the wider Syrian conflict’s devastating impact on civilians.
International Response Needed
Humanitarian organizations and the international community face mounting pressure to intervene and provide urgent assistance. Securing safe passages, delivering aid, and addressing rights violations are critical to alleviate the suffering of those trapped in northern Aleppo.
