Jordan closes Jaber crossing amid escalating tensions in southern Syria
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen al-Farayeh announced on Friday the temporary closure of the Jaber/Nassib border crossing due to heightened security concerns in southern Syria.
North Press correspondent said local armed groups gained control of several key border crossings with Jordan on Friday.
This development follows the withdrawal of Syrian government forces, including units of the Fourth Armored Division, from these positions.
The correspondent added that the local groups also seized the Old Daraa al-Balad crossing, with the government troops retreating to the Sajnah neighborhood while transporting their heavy weaponry.
The shift in control has left most of the government’s military checkpoints in Daraa Governorate under the authority of local groups.
Despite these developments, the city of Daraa remains on edge, with the government forces maintaining a state of heightened alert and significant deployments across the area.
