Clashes, military withdrawals shake Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Violent confrontations broke out on Friday between local armed militants and the Military Security Branch of the government forces in the northern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria.
The skirmishes, that took place in the town of Nawa, north of Daraa, ended with the local militants taking control of the branch.
The clashes claimed the life of a local militant called Abdul Baset al-Qablawy, according to a source who spoke to North Press.
In the town of Inkhil, north of Daraa, the government forces withdrew from several strategic points, including the State Security building, relocating to the nearby town of Simlin before regrouping at the Brigade 15 base.
Following their retreat, troops stationed at the brigade shelled Inkhil’s outskirts, though no injuries were reported.
Elsewhere, the city of Jassem, in the north of Daraa, became a hotspot as local militants and government forces clashed around the city’s military outposts.
Government artillery, fired from the Judayyah Battalion base, targeted Jassem’s residential areas, injuring three children, the source noted.
The source added that the local militants imposed a 24-hour curfew across all neighborhoods in Jassem to protect the civilians.
