CENTCOM forces destroy military sites in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday that it had destroyed multiple weapon systems preparing to target U.S. and Global Coalition forces in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

In a statement, CENTCOM said that the strikes were conducted in “self-defense” after U.S. forces came under attack from rockets and mortars.

The weapons systems included three truck mounted Multiple Rocket Launchers, a T-64 tank, an armored personnel carrier, and mortars.

The announcement follows the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, a component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), launching a military operation on Tuesday in villages under the control of the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militia east of Deir ez-Zor.

CENTCOM stressed that “The U.S. mission in Syria remains unchanged as U.S. and Coalition forces continue to focus on the enduring defeat of ISIS.”

Amid these developments, U.S. State Department spokesman Vedant Patel urged for de-escalation and renewed efforts toward a political resolution in Syria.

He emphasized that no country should exploit the events in Syria and called for the revitalization of the political process in alignment with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254.

Patel further noted that the events of the past three days have underscored that this conflict can only be resolved through a political settlement. He reiterated the U.S.’ commitment to working with partners and allies to ensure that all actors with influence in Syria promote de-escalation.
