Iraq strengthens border security amid shifting dynamics in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Iraqi forces announced on Monday enhanced measures to secure the country’s border with Syria, while the Interior Ministry affirmed that this border remains “the most secure.”

The Iraqi forces revealed that it has deployed three brigades, along with two brigades from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), to reinforce the border amid evolving territorial control in Syria.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Defense, armored units from the Iraqi forces have been mobilized to bolster defenses along the open border stretching from al-Qaim in the south to Jordan, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Lieutenant General Muhammad Abdul Wahab Sukar Al-Saeedi, commander of the border forces, said the border is equipped with smart thermal cameras operating around the clock to detect any movement.

The Interior Ministry reiterated its confidence in the border’s security, declaring it impenetrable and one of the most secure borders in the region.
