AANES calls for international support to safeguard society
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) issued on Sunday a call for international assistance to protect the diverse communities of the region, including Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, and other groups within Syria’s complex demographic fabric.
In a statement, the AANES urged the global community to exert pressure on Turkey to prevent further escalation, citing the deployment of Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka as the Syrian National Army (SNA), in potential attacks on areas in and around Aleppo.
It highlighted the rapidly shifting military dynamics and control maps in Syria, emphasizing their close monitoring of developments and the potential repercussions for the security and well-being of the region’s population.
The statement accused the SNA of exploiting recent military operations by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) against government forces to target areas hosting displaced Afrin residents since 2018.
These areas, primarily in the north of Aleppo and specific neighborhoods in the city, have been under the protection of local forces.
According to the AANES, the SNA seeks to justify its attacks on Kurdish-majority areas by spreading disinformation through the opposition Syrian National Coalition.
The AANES warned that these actions threaten the stability of northern and eastern Syria, exacerbating existing tensions and humanitarian challenges.
The AANES concluded by reiterating its willingness to engage in dialogue with Syrian and regional stakeholders to foster stability and peace across Syria.
Earlier, the AANES announced a state of general military mobilization due to the ongoing events in Syria.
