Government forces regain control over parts of Syria’s Hama

HAMA, Syria (North Press) – A government officer told North Press on Sunday that the Syrian government forces regained control over several villages in the countryside of Hama, west-central Syria.

According to the government officer stationed near the front lines, the government forces successfully recaptured the towns of Suran, Maardes, Tayba, and Qalat Madiq in Hama’s northern countryside early Sunday morning.

On Saturday evening Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, once known as the al-Nusra Front) said they entered the city of Hama and seized control of villages and towns on its outskirts.

The officer added that Russian and the Syrian government aircraft are providing air support to facilitate the forces’ ongoing advance.

Two hours prior, warplanes conducted airstrikes on the town of Morek in northern Hama.

Meanwhile, Syria’s state-run news agency SANA and other pro-government media outlets published photos of neighborhoods in the city of Hama, asserting that life in the city remains “normal” despite the nearby hostilities.
