Opposition factions seize control of government military airbase in Idlib
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), seized on Saturday control of Abu al-Duhur military airbase in the eastern countryside of Idlib in northwestern Syria.
An opposition leader told North Press that fighting with the government forces resulted in their successful takeover of the airbase.
Abu al-Duhur military airbase is one of the Syrian government’s key military bases, second in strategic importance only to Taftanaz military airport.
He further stated that the factions also gained control of the village of Ma’saran and a Russian base near the village after Russian forces reportedly withdrew from the area.
