Gunmen attack SDF checkpoint, oil tanker in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen carried out on Wednesday night two separate attacks targeting an oil tanker and a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) checkpoint in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A source told North Press that the first attack involved an ambush on an oil transport tanker near the main road in the town of al-Keber, west of Deir ez-Zor.
The gunmen opened fire from a distance, causing significant damage to the tanker and spilling its cargo.
In a separate incident, gunmen on motorcycles launched an assault on an SDF checkpoint in the town of Hawaij in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
Armed with automatic weapons, the attackers caused material damage to the checkpoint before fleeing the scene.
On Nov. 26, armed individuals, suspected to be affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS), targeted oil tankers loaded with diesel near the village of Ruwayshid, north of Deir ez-Zor.
