IDF intercepts weapons smuggled by Iranian militias in Syria to West Bank
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli forces announced late on Wednesday that it had intercepted an attempt to smuggle weapons from Iranian militias operating in Syria to the West Bank.
In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) revealed that the smuggling operation was orchestrated by the Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its Quds Force operating in Syria.
“The weapons seized included rockets, Claymore explosives with wireless activation systems, bombs, mortar launchers, sniper rifles, and more, buried in multiple locations,” IDF’s statement read.
The IDF added that the weapons were dispatched by IRGC’s 4000 Division, led by Jawad Ghafari, in coordination with the Quds Force’s Unit 840, headed by Etsar Bakri, operating within Syrian territory.
The IDF pointed out that it will continue to monitor and thwart any Iranian activity aimed at smuggling weapons into Israel.
