Unknown gunmen kill government soldier, civilian in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen killed on Tuesday a member of the Syrian government forces and a civilian in an attack in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source told North Press that unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle attacked a checkpoint manned by the Fourth Armored Division of the government forces at the entrance to the town of al-Mayadin.

The source said that the attack claimed the life of a soldier of the government forces and a 37-year-old civilian, Issa Khalifa, who was passing by the checkpoint at the time. Khalifa was a resident of al-Mayadin.

Following the attack, checkpoint personnel opened random fire toward nearby civilian homes, spreading panic and fear among the local population, according to the source.
