ISIS gunmen attack government posts in Syrian Desert

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Gunmen affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) launched on Sunday evening coordinated attacks on posts of the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Desert, leading to casualties and injuries.

A military source from the government forces in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that ISIS militants attacked several government posts held by the Fourth Armored Division and Division 17 in the deserts of al-Tebni and Kabajib, west and south of Deir ez-Zor.

These attacks coincided with severe dust storms and triggered intense clashes between the two sides.

The source revealed that two government soldiers were killed during the fighting, and the militants succeeded in overrunning government posts.

The government forces fled the scene, abandoning their weapons and ammunition, with some personnel still unaccounted for.

Additionally, the source stated that ISIS conducted another operation targeting Iranian-backed military posts in the al-Sukhnah desert. This resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries.

He noted that the militants leveraged the reduced visibility caused by the dust storms to execute their attacks effectively.
