Kurdish security forces capture Syrian government-linked fighters in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) reported the capture of three members of an armed group supported by Syrian government forces in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

The Asayish detailed in a press release that a security operation on Friday led to the arrest of three fighters associated with government-backed armed groups. Among those detained was a prominent leader named Abu Mishal al-Bakiri, who was apprehended in northern Deir ez-Zor.

According to the Asayish, the arrested individuals were involved in attacks targeting the security and military forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). They had previously fled to the western bank of the Euphrates, an area under government and Iranian militia control, before covertly returning to conduct armed operations.

The Euphrates River splits Deir ez-Zor into two zones of influence — the western bank, held by government forces and Iranian-backed militias, and the eastern bank, governed by the SDF.
