SDF Rescues Young Yazidi from ISIS in Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the successful rescue of a Yazidi abductee from Islamic State (ISIS) cells in Manbij, northern Syria.

The SDF’s military operations teams (TOL) reported in a press release that one of its units freed a young man, Diyar Ali Raffo, “who was abducted by ISIS in 2014 during their attack on the Sinjar/Shingal region in [Iraqi] Kurdistan.”

According to the SDF statement, Diyar was located and rescued from a residence where an ISIS cell was preparing to smuggle him into territory controlled by Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as the Syrian National Army (SNA).

Diyar sustained injuries from a bombing at the ISIS hideout, the statement noted.

The SDF also highlighted that ISIS had initially kidnapped Diyar when he was ten years old, forcibly recruiting him after separating him from his mother and siblings.
