Italy announces ambassador to Syria assumes duties in Damascus

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that its ambassador to Syria, Stefano Ravagnan, has officially assumed his duties as head of the diplomatic mission in Damascus.

In a statement shared on the platform X, the Italian Foreign Ministry emphasized Ravagnan’s commitment, stating that he is “conscious of the complexity of the crisis, but also of the contribution Italy can offer to the Syrian people.”

“I know I can count on a solid network, thanks to the many CSOs that have been working there for years and to the archaeological missions that have kept operating,” Ravagnan said.

This move came as Syria announced reopening its consulate in Rome and the resumption of consular services for Syrians residing in Italy.

Italy has now become the first member of the G7 to reopen its diplomatic mission in Damascus since the start of the Syrian conflict.
