Russia ready to resume Syria talks with U.S. post-Trump win

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Russia’s Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, announced on Tuesday Moscow’s readiness to resume dialogue with Washington over Syria, following Donald Trump’s recent victory in the U.S. presidential election.

Lavrentiev made the announcement on the sidelines of the 22nd round of the Astana talks, aimed at resolving the conflict in Syria.

He voiced support for efforts to normalize relations between Syria and Turkey, a key issue discussed during the meetings.

Iran’s chief negotiator, Ali Asghar Khaji, also expressed Iran’s readiness to assist in facilitating the process. Khaji indicated that any formal proposal from Russia would likely receive positive consideration.

Despite the talks concluding without major breakthroughs, the meeting reinforced the importance of continued normalization efforts between Syria and Turkey. A follow-up round of Astana talks is scheduled for next year.
