Cairo platform denies agreement with Moscow platform, calls it unofficial
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Cairo Platform of the Syrian opposition refuted on Sunday claims that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Moscow Platform. Both are key components of the Syrian Negotiations Commission (SNC).
In a statement, the group clarified that the alleged agreement was an unauthorized action by a single member, Firas Khalidi, who reportedly signed without consulting the general assembly.
The Cairo platform emphasized that the document is non-binding and does not reflect the views or agreements of the platform as it lacks a basis in the protocols of genuine partnership.
They explained that only the follow-up committee and general assembly—acting as the official decision-making bodies—can authorize such agreements.
On Nov 8, the Moscow and Cairo platforms—key components of the Syrian Negotiations Commission (SNC)—reached an agreement on a memorandum aimed at advancing a political solution in Syria.
The memorandum outlines five main principles centered on fully implementing U.N. Security Council Resolution 2254 to achieve a political resolution.
