Turkish shelling in Syria’s Manbij leaves casualties
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Turkish shelling targeted on Saturday morning several villages in the countryside of Manbij, northern Syria.
The Manbij Military Council, a component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said that Turkish forces fired 45 shells on a crossing in the village of Awn Dadat, and five additional mortar and artillery shells on the village of al-Daraj, north of Manbij.
According to the council, the shelling caused material damage.
The Awn Dadat crossing serves as a civilian passageway, where hundreds of civilians rely on this route daily. The crossing connects areas run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) with regions controlled by the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA).
Meanwhile on Friday, two soldiers of the Syrian government forces were killed and three others injured in a Turkish drone strike on a government post, the Council said.
The shelling targeted the villages of al-Jat, al-Hissan, and al-Alwat in northeastern Manbij.
The Council added that fires broke out in olive groves around the affected sites, causing damage.
