Unknown gunmen assassinate AANES official in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) was assassinated on Monday by unknown gunmen in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.
According to a local source, unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on Khalaf Ali al-Nasser using an AK-47 rifle as he traveled along the main road in the town of al-Ozba in the east of Deir ez-Zor, resulting in his immediate death.
The source added that al-Nasser, 39, was the head of the local council in al-Ozba, which is part of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council.
The attackers fled toward the desert surrounding the town after the assassination, the source said.
The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) have yet to comment on the incident.
