HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), an all-female unit of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Monday capturing three members of the Islamic State (ISIS) during two security operations in eastern Syria.
In a press release, the YPJ detailed that these operations targeted two different ISIS cells in the countryside of Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor.
YPJ forces captured two ISIS militants in an operation on the Hasakah-Shaddadi road. They also dismantled a mine they had planted along the road.
Additionally, another operation in Deir ez-Zor led to the capture of a third ISIS member, along with the seizure of a cache of ammunition in his possession.
Founded in April 2013, the YPJ is an all-female force of the SDF, and is mainly made up of Kurds but includes other ethnic groups in Northeastern Syria.
