Conference on Syria calls for unity, U.N. Res. 2254 implementation
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Track concluded its founding conference in Brussels, Belgium, emphasizing the urgent need to implement U.N. Resolution 2254 to prevent the fragmentation of Syria due to external interventions.
The final statement highlighted the necessity for a political transition facilitated by the United Nations and guided by international resolutions, particularly Resolution 2254. It called for broader representation of all Syrians while affirming the country’s national identity.
The conference, held over two days, on Oct. 25 and 26, brought together 128 delegates to discuss a political transition, representation of diverse groups, and the establishment of a decentralized system through inclusive national dialogue.
The statement underscored the importance of establishing a decentralized system, the specifics of which should be determined through an inclusive national dialogue involving all parties.
This approach aims to protect the rights of all segments of the Syrian population, prevent the resurgence of tyranny, and maintain a clear separation between religion and state, ensuring the state remains neutral towards all religions, according to the statement.
Furthermore, the statement addressed the need to resolve the Kurdish issue in accordance with international law, while safeguarding the rights of other ethnic communities.
The statement emphasized the need to strengthen efforts to bring all Syrian democrats together, calling for a comprehensive national conference, organized with the help of international and regional support.
This conference aims to unite all political and democratic forces committed to a progressive future for Syria, ensuring that the future of the country reflects the collective aspirations of its people.
