Turkish airstrikes cause $5 million in damages to energy sector – AANES

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) estimated on Saturday that Turkish airstrikes inflicted over 5 million dollars in damages on the energy sector.

Ziyad Rustam, co-Chair of the AANES’ Energy Board, told North Press that three main power substations in Kobani, Amuda, and Tirbe Spiyeh (al-Qahtaniya) are now completely out of service due to the destruction of five major transformers by the airstrikes.

Since early Oct. 24, Turkey has conducted extensive airstrikes targeting oil facilities, essential infrastructure, and vast areas across north and northeastern Syria, killing 14 people.

Rustam highlighted that over 10 oil fields in the region have also been struck, warning of widespread impacts on local residents, as these facilities supply heating fuel and electricity.

The damage extends to oil refineries producing diesel, compounding the challenges faced by communities relying on these resources.

He added that there are currently no immediate alternatives to replace the stations and facilities damaged by the ongoing Turkish attacks, particularly as these assaults continue to focus on essential infrastructure and services.
