Israel launches airstrikes on military sites in Iran

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israel conducted early on Saturday airstrikes on military sites in Iran in response to a recent attack from Tehran.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed these strikes, and announced that their operation was successful.

Israel announced it was launching military strikes against Iranian targets in response to a recent missile attack when Iran fired about 200 missiles at Israel on Oct. 1, marking the second direct attack from Iran in six months.

The Iranian strikes were reportedly in retaliation for Israel killing senior Hezbollah leaders, who, alongside Hamas, are aligned with Iran against Israel.

Moreover, Iranian media reported that multiple explosions occurred over several hours in Tehran and at nearby military bases, beginning shortly after 02:00 AM local time.

Israel’s public broadcaster reported that three waves of airstrikes had concluded before dawn.

In response, Iran claimed that its air defense systems had successfully intercepted the Israeli attacks on military targets in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam, resulting in only “limited damage” to some sites.

Tensions between Israel and Iran have increased since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Hezbollah, a militia based in Lebanon and backed by Iran, has supported Hamas in this conflict.
