MSF warns Turkish airstrikes further deteriorate conditions in NE Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières – MSF) warned on Friday that the recent Turkish airstrikes on Northeast Syria is likely to further deteriorate the region’s already fragile social and economic conditions.

In a post on X platform, MSF expressed deep concern about the ongoing military escalation, “targeting civilian infrastructure and damaging healthcare facilities resulting in civilian casualties.”

Since Turkish forces began this escalation on Thursday early morning, 12 civilians, including two children, were killed, and 25 others were injured according to a toll released by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The organization emphasized that “This escalation will almost certainly severely affect people’s access in NES to essential services and worsen the socioeconomic situation of a region already devastated by more than a decade of conflict.”

Moreover, MSF called on “All warring parties to prioritize the safety of civilians and refrain from targeting essential infrastructure during this conflict.”
