Assad, Jordan’s FM discuss removing Iranian-backed militias from border
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi discussed efforts to push Iranian-backed militias away from the border with Syria and the return of refugees, a Jordanian analyst said on Monday.
Jalal Al-Abadi, a Jordanian military analyst, said that al-Assad and Safadi discussed the removal of Iranian-backed militias from the Jordanian border.
On Sunday, al-Assad received Safadi in Damascus, where Safadi delivered verbal messages from King Abdullah II of Jordan.
Al-Abadi added that both sides also addressed the importance of stopping drug smuggling across the border and maintaining security along Jordan’s southern frontier.
Additionally, the talks touched on the necessity of ensuring the safe return of Syrian refugees, a priority emphasized by Jordan.
Safadi emphasized Jordan’s commitment to facilitating the return of Syrian refugees, highlighting the country’s ongoing efforts to promote stability and recovery in Syria for the benefit of the entire region.
Moreover, Syria’s state-run news agency SANA said that al-Assad stated that the Syrian government is focused on ensuring that Syrian refugees can return home safely.
He emphasized that Syria has made notable advancements in the legal and regulatory processes to facilitate this return.
