Turkey sends reinforcements to NW Syria amid escalating clashes

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish military forces deployed on Friday night additional reinforcements to the countryside of Aleppo in northwestern Syria amid ongoing military escalation between the Syrian government forces and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, once known as al-Nusra Front).

The Turkish forces sent a convoy of 28 military vehicles, including armored units, to their post east of the city of al-Atarib, west of Aleppo.

This marks the third such deployment in the region within a week as several areas in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo witnessed heavy mutual shelling between HTS and the government forces.

A military source from the opposition told North Press that the government forces targeted several villages in the countryside of Aleppo, including Taqad, Kafr Amma, al-Abzimo, Kafr Nouran, Maklabis, Kafr Taal, and the outskirts of al-Atarib, with approximately 30 artillery and rocket shells.

In the Idlib countryside, villages such as Fatterah, Sfuhen, Kafr Oweid, Kansafra, Maarat al-Numan, and Majdaliya, were also subjected to heavy artillery and rocket fire.

In retaliation, HTS launched a counter-attack, shelling government posts in the city of Saraqib. According to HTS, the strike resulted in the deaths of four government soldiers and left seven others wounded.
