Iraqi forces, Coalition kill senior ISIS leader in Iraq

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on Friday that Iraqi Security Forces (ISF), eliminated a senior Islamic State (ISIS) leader and three other members of the group in northeastern Iraq on Oct. 14.

The airstrikes targeted key ISIS operatives, including Shahadhah ‘Allawi Salih ‘Ulaywi al-Bajjari, also known as Abu Issa, the “Wali of Kirkuk,” identified as the highest-ranking ISIS leader in Northern Iraq.

CENTCOM added that the ISF conducted precision airstrikes, in coordination with the U.S.-led Global Coalition’s Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), aiming to disrupt ISIS attack networks in Iraq.

The statement pointed out that initial assessments of the strike revealed that multiple suicide belts, weapons, explosives, and ammunition were destroyed, with no civilian casualties reported.

This strike is part of an ongoing mission to degrade the capabilities of ISIS and prevent the terrorist organization from carrying out attacks against civilians and military personnel, the statement noted.

Earlier in August, the Coalition and ISF conducted a successful raid in Western Iraq that resulted in the death of 15 ISIS operatives.
