HTS arrests 14 women in Idlib after protest over missing detainees
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, (HTS, once known as al-Nusra Front), arrested on Thursday 14 women in Idlib Governorate, Northwest Syria, following a protest and attempted storming of an HTS post.
An official from the HTS-affiliated police stated that the protest occurred in front of the group’s grievances office, where women demanded the release of their detained sons and clarification of their fates.
The demonstrators blocked the road and burned tires in frustration over nearly a year of silence on the detainees, despite HTS claiming the men were still under security investigation.
The demonstration escalated when the protesters attempted to forcibly enter HTS posts.
In response, the group’s General Security forces surrounded the area and arrested 14 women involved in the protest.
The arrests have sparked widespread anger, as tensions in Idlib remain high due to ongoing Russian airstrikes in the region.
