IED blast in Syria’s Daraa kills, injures 3 government soldiers
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on Wednesday in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, killing and injuring three soldiers of the Syrian government forces.
The IED, planted by unknown assailants, targeted a vehicle carrying government personnel in the northern countryside of Daraa and resulted in the killing of an officer and the injury of two soldiers
Local sources told North Press that the officer, Somer Anis Youssef, was killed in the explosion, while the two soldiers accompanying him sustained injuries of varying severity.
The attack occurred on the road linking the city of Jassem and the town of Inkhil in the north of Daraa.
Youssef, who hailed from the coastal city of Tartus, was an officer in Brigade 34 of the 9th Division of the government forces, stationed in the city of Sanamayn, north of Daraa.
Following the attack, the government forces heavily deployed in the area, and the injured were transported, along with Youssef’s body, to Sanamayn Military Hospital.
Daraa Governorate has been marred by persistent instability. Daily incidents of violence, targeted killings, and arbitrary arrests plague the area, contributing to a continuous state of insecurity.
