220,000 people crossed from Lebanon into Syria – UNHCR
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – UNHCR, the U.N. Refugee Agency said on Sunday approximately 220,000 people, including both Lebanese and Syrians, are estimated to have crossed from Lebanon to Syria due to increasing violence.
UNHCR added that since Sep. 23, more than 220,000 Syrian and Lebanese nationals, as well as a small number of other nationalities affected, have fled Lebanon and crossed into Syria.
Of these, about 70 percent are Syrians, while 30 percent are Lebanese nationals, according to the U.N. Agency.
UNHCR pointed out that it increased its operations at Jisr al-Qmar border crossing in Lebanon.
The Agency highlighted that after airstrikes near the Masnaa border crossing, the number of people entering through the Jdaidet Yabous crossing—Lebanon’s main entry point—dropped significantly, by about 75 percent. The daily arrivals decreased from around 13,000 to approximately 3,000 people.
