Suspected ISIS gunmen target oil field, tankers in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Gunmen suspected to be linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) launched on Friday night attacks on an oil field in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
According to a local source, armed militants targeted an oil site near the al-Jafra oil field in the desert near the town of Al-Ozba, setting the facility ablaze before escaping toward the desert.
The source also added that gunmen, riding motorcycles, attacked oil tankers near the village of Sa’wa in western Deir ez-Zor, causing significant material damage.
Another assault on oil tankers occurred in the desert near al-Jarzi, carried out by unidentified gunmen.
Two days earlier, armed individuals believed to be affiliated with ISIS attacked oil tankers in the desert near the village of Ruwayshid in the north of Deir ez-Zor.
